Company Profile Quirkat was established in late 2004, and has positioned itself
as the Middle East’s leading video gaming brand. The company was started on
the minimum requirement for company registration in Jordan, which is 30K
Jordanian Dinars. This was put up directly by the two founders, Mahmoud
Khasawneh and Candide Kirk. The mandate of Quirkat is to drive the
development and publishing of regionally relevant content, by capitalizing on
knowledge of the region’s history, culture, social structures, religions and
demographics. Quirkat’s strength lies in its partnership with global gaming leaders
and leading regional brands. Quirkat has 4 full time employees and up to 5
contractors at its disposal when necessary. The company has Data Services
agreements signed with mobile network operators in The biggest challenge was to attract financial partners to enable the development and distribution of a flagship PC games product. This led to the birth of Arabian Lords (www.arabianlords.com), which constitutes the first commercially viable PC games development effort in the Middle East, in par with international quality games. Arabian Lords lead in Virgin Megastore’s regional charts for many weeks and achieved a number 2 position ahead of major global players. The Second biggest challenge was adapting game terminology for the Arabic language. Classical Arabic doesn’t naturally lend itself to gaming and with the increased uptake of internet and computer literacy across the region; Quirkat found itself setting a new lexicon of Arabic video games related terms. The third challenge and pillar of Quirkat’s overall strategy is the company’s online games portal Fuzztak (www.fuzztak.com). Fuzztak is another pioneering product form Quirkat that delivers a unique online casual gaming experience to Arab and non-Arab gamers worldwide. The company today is profitable and has managed to sustain its operating costs for the past four years.
